Safari Overview
A thoughtfully curated journey that blends Tanzania's headline safari highlights with a deeply human cultural day at Lake Eyasi and a relaxing island finale on Zanzibar. Discover elephant herds in Tarangire, tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara, the endless plains of the Serengeti, and the iconic Ngorongoro Crater — then meet the Hadzabe hunter-gatherers and Datoga blacksmiths at Lake Eyasi before flying to Zanzibar for Stone Town, spice farms, Jozani forest, and Mnemba Atoll snorkeling.
The pace is balanced: enough park-time to actually see the wildlife and a real two-night beach break to come down off safari mode. Mid-range lodges and tented camps throughout the mainland; mid-range Stone Town hotel and beach hotel on Zanzibar.
Detailed Itinerary
Arrival in Arusha
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, your safari guide meets you and transfers you to your lodge in Arusha. The afternoon is yours to rest and reset; an optional guided tour of Arusha city is available at no extra cost.
Arusha — Tarangire National Park
Early breakfast then drive south to Tarangire National Park, carrying packed lunch boxes for the day. Tarangire is renowned for its huge elephant herds and varied landscape — sweeping savanna, seasonal swamps, and the life-giving Tarangire River that draws wildlife year-round. Lions on the hunt and leopards in the trees are real possibilities. Exit in the evening to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Lake Eyasi — Hadzabe & Datoga Cultural Day
After breakfast, drive to Lake Eyasi to meet the Hadzabe — one of the last true hunter-gatherer communities in East Africa. With permission you can join them on a morning bush walk and watch traditional hunting techniques first-hand. Continue to a nearby Datoga homestead, a pastoral community known for their remarkable blacksmithing — see tools and ornaments forged with age-old methods. Optional walk around Lake Eyasi and a nearby village (no extra cost) before returning to your lodge for dinner.
Lake Manyara National Park
Early breakfast and depart for Lake Manyara National Park with packed lunch boxes. Game drives through the park's striking diversity of habitats — groundwater forest, open lake margins, acacia woodland. Famous for tree-climbing lions resting in acacia and fig trees, energetic troops of baboons in the forest, and outstanding birdlife. Late-afternoon transfer to your lodge for dinner.
Karatu — Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, set off for the legendary Serengeti. Game viewing begins as soon as you enter the park gates, with a picnic lunch in a scenic spot inside the park. Afternoon game drive en route to your camp, arriving as the sun sets across the plains.
Serengeti — Full Day Game Drives
A full day to explore the Serengeti at your own pace, designed to maximize wildlife sightings and photography. The Serengeti is the stage for the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra — exact location depends on the season — and holds an impressive resident population of lions, leopards, and cheetahs.
Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, journey to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend onto the crater floor for a full-day game drive (with packed lunch). The largest intact volcanic caldera on Earth supports an extraordinary concentration of wildlife in a compact area — buffaloes, lions, elephants, cheetahs, and the rare black rhino — plus flamingos, eagles, and buzzards. Ascend in the afternoon and transfer to your lodge for dinner.
Arusha Airport — Stone Town, Zanzibar
Leisurely morning to pick up souvenirs in Karatu town before driving to Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, private transfer to your hotel in the heart of Stone Town. In the evening, explore the lively Forodhani Gardens night market for local Swahili food.
Stone Town — Prison Island
Leisurely morning then a guided tour of Stone Town — a UNESCO World Heritage site of winding streets, the House of Wonders, the Sultan's Palace, the Old Fort, spice markets, and craft shops. Mid-morning, a short boat ride to Prison (Changuu) Island to see the historic prison ruins and meet the giant Aldabra tortoises, with optional swimming or snorkeling. Return to Stone Town in the early afternoon to relax at the hotel or have lunch at a local café.
Spice Farm Tour & Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park
After breakfast, visit a traditional Zanzibar spice farm — cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla — with a guide who shows how to identify, smell, and taste the fresh spices. Continue to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, home to the rare red colobus monkeys, with a guided walk through forest, mangrove boardwalks, and swamp habitats. Transfer to your beach resort in Nungwi / Kendwa for the evening.
Mnemba Marine Adventure & Departure
A marine morning at Mnemba Atoll — one of Zanzibar's most pristine reefs — with snorkeling among colorful coral and reef fish, and a chance to spot pods of playful dolphins along the way. Time on the soft white sand afterwards, with optional kayaking or a sunset dhow cruise on request. Private transfer to the airport or ferry terminal for your onward journey.
